Global Picnic

Under tre lördagar i september vill vi lyfta fram Göteborgs alla smaker genom en internationell matmarknad på Kanaltorget i Göteborg. Kvinnor och män från Göteborgs olika delar och hörn kommer att stå bakom 10-20 matstånd och servera maträtter från alla världens hörn, även då svensk mat. Tanken är att få folk från olika delar av en segregerad stad att mötas på samma villkor och på grundval av samma världsliga intresse – god mat.

Människor har lagat mat utomhus i 1000-tals år, matintresset i landet har varit stort ett tag nu och matmarknader har vi sett innan. Inget nytt där med andra ord. Global Picnic baseras på kunskaper och resurser som redan finns i staden, och att det är ett projekt som verkar för att föra människor förenas över god mat. Målet är att Global Picnic ska bli en återkommande marknad med färdiglagad internationell mat i centrum.
Global Picnic tänker långsiktigt och matförsäljare får genomgå en workshop, som innefattar en utbildning i ansvaret som inkomsttagare och en grundläggande miljö- och hälsoutbildning. Det ingår även en kurs i hur man genom att lära andra att laga mat eller bjuda på mat hemma kan skapa sig en sysselsättning.

Global Picnic är en ideell förening och de pengar som kommer in i föreningen - genom att folk hyr en plats för att sälja mat - kommer att gå till kostnader kring matförsäljningen såsom tillstånd, städning, säkerhet m.m. 

Ett annat inslag på Global Picnic är Global Scene där olika uppträdanden kommer att ske under marknadens gång. Vi kommer att se bland annat se och höra dans och musik i olika genrer. 
Framöver finns ambitionen att göra en kokbok i samband med projektet och ett matprogram för internet. Förening kommer under resten av året arrangera matturer, matlagningskurser och supperclubs med intressanta smaker och platser i fokus och där deltagare från marknaden kommer vara med och visa hur man lagar rätter från hela världen.

För ett år sedan startade jag undergroundrestaurangen Middagsklubben i mitt vardagsrum, ett mat- och upplevelsekoncept där man bokar en plats och äter middag med människor man inte tidigare träffat. Three Saturdays throughout the month of September we want to highlight all of Gothenburg’s flavors with an international food market on Kanaltorget in Gothenburg. Women and men from all corners of the city will be standing behind 20 food stands and offer their countries’ specialties, which of course will also include Swedish food. The idea is to get people from all parts of a segregated city to come together under the same conditions and because of the same universal interest – good food.


People have been cooking outdoors for thousands of years, the interest in food in the country has been vast for a while now and food markets have been done before. In other words there hasn’t been a significant development or change in the way we cook and consume food lately. Global Picnic will use the knowledge and resources that already exist in the city, and is a project that is based on the idea of bringing people together through good food. The goal is for Global Picnic to become a regular food market with a focus on international dishes. 
Global Picnic has a long-term strategy and the food salespeople get to join a workshop consisting of a course in the responsibilities of earning an income and a basic environment- and health course. Included in the project as well is a course in how one, through teaching others how to cook or serving food at home, can establish a hopefully long-lasting and joyful pursuit.

Global Picnic is a Non-profit organization and the money that we generate – through rentals of food stands at the market – will be used to finance the costs dealing with the selling of food such as permits, cleaning, safety and security etc. 

There will also be a scene called Global Scene with different tyoes og entertainment troughout the market.
A future ambition is to create a cookbook to this project as well as a food show produced for the internet. The organization will arrange cooking courses and supperclubs throughout the year with a focus on interesting flavors where participants from the market will join in on how to cook dishes from the whole world.
